Biotech Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

New Age Eats is a leader in the race to produce lab-grown meat for a more sustainable and healthy alternative to farm-raised meat products. Like with any commercial food product, the procedures to produce food can have variable outcomes and companies are subject to auditing for safety reasons. As a result, New Age Eats needed a highly dependable Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to track the different scientific and cooking procedures to produce their products, the first of which was pork sausage.

New Age Eats’s existing tools for tracking their food-based procedures generated data that was fragmented between various applications and the off-the-shelf solutions did not fit their needs. Building a LIMS from the ground up would give New Age Eats control over their processes, data, and keep them nimble as their startup business evolves. Finding a solution that streamlined workflows, automated checks, and improved accountability were all opportunities for the project.

We developed a web application that allows employees to collaboratively manage laboratory operational workflows. The interface supports multiple personas with permission-based functionality that makes for a secure and streamlined user experience. Administrators and supervisors create laboratory documentation to train employees and the embedded instructions are fed into work order requests used to track outcomes of recipes and procedures. Collectively, the web application promotes visibility, efficiency, and accountability across the organization as they produce food products.
