RailPros is the trusted provider for the railroad industry in engineering, field services, training and media production. RailPros provides diversified safety services for the leading railroad companies and needed a development partner who could turn a novel idea for providing easy access to federally mandated regulatory rules into a free-to-use mobile application available across all platforms and devices.

The Federal Railroad Administration publishes electronic codes of federal regulations that all railroaders must adhere to. Having simple and easy access to these regulations are paramount to railroaders and their safety, of which the FRA does not provide. Thus, our client sought to publish an easy to access mobile application that provides the same electronic codes, for free, to those who want to access them when they do not have the handbook or a computer at the ready. Our team needed to devise a solution that routinely scrapes the published rules for updates, construct an intuitive mobile app to review these rules, and give users the ability to save them for offline usage.

We designed a minimal and intuitive user interface that allows users to quickly access these federal regulations at the tap of a button. We built a comprehensive backend system that continuously scrapes the published information and updates the codes within the app. We built a cross-platform iOS and Android application and published it into the app stores for anyone to use, free of charge. The solution provides railroaders the safety and security they need to quickly reference the rules and regulations while they are out in the field.
